Hyaluronic Acid

Whether you say it is Hydrolic acid, Hydraulic acid, Hydrolonic acid, or Hyaluronic Acid, the proper pronunciation is Hi-ah-lew-ron-ic Acid.

Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is a substance that naturally occurs in our body, and 50% is found in our skin.

In our skin, HA is a gelatinous, slimy, squishy, mushy substance that is one of the fundamental pieces in having our skin feel moisturized and hydrated.

HA in other areas of our body is an important part of keeping our joints lubricated, and our eyes from feeling dry. It has an overall hydrating effect on our entire body.

When we are a baby our body (specifically our skin) creates and renews our supply of HA non-stop. This is one of the reasons a baby's skin is so youthful and plump. Their supply of Hyaluronic Acid is endless.

As we age our natural supply of HA starts to slow down.

Things to know about Hyaluronic Acid:

  • HA holds up to 1000 times its weight in water. This means it pulls all the other water molecules in your skin together and creates a “water blanket” below the surface.
  • Many skin fillers are made up of HA to add fullness and volume to the skin where volume loss occurs. Volume loss is a natural progression of skin aging.
  • HA is a non-comedogenic ingredient in skincare. It does not clog your pores. HA can aid in healing acne.

A good skincare practice is incorporating a high-quality Hyaluronic Acid into your daily routine.

Two of our favorite HA products are the Skin Script Hydrating Cucumber Toner and The Perfect Derma Peel Hyaluronic Peptide Serum.
